Distortion in Beauty Standards

BTEC Level 3 Art and Design: Photography

September 2021 – January 2022

This selection of photos were a part of my A-level Photography ‘Reflections’ project, where I had looked at the distortion of beauty standards and the effects it has on many young people. Through manipulating the photos I aimed to explore facial dysmorphia, piecing together one portrait with different images. In doing so I consequently aimed to convey how we feel the need to reconstruct ourselves to fit the societal beauty standards. There is a common theme of layering and collaging within this selection which hints at the fact that we conceal our true selves because we deem those traits to be unloveable and ugly.
