These pieces were a part of my A-level Photography ‘Identity’ project where I explored my personal identity of being half Japanese and half English. Through the pieces, I aimed to describe the divide in which many mixed people like myself have experienced when trying to define their sense of self and trying to interact with both cultures. By carrying out artists emulations of both western and asian practitioners, I looked for ways to visually show this divide. The shared experience of never feeling fully integrated with either cultures is what I tried to convey throughout the project. I wanted to show that I’m not more one than the other, but simultaneously both.
